Are you sure you heard "Man, Anakin", and not "Mannequin"? Perhaps they thought his acting was a little bit stiff.

Heh. Well, as bad as the acting is, I don't think that's the main problem. It's that the character is such a complete snot.

I don't disagree with the youngling, but in retrospect Luke really was a dork. Watch the movies again. He was as big a dork as his dad was and we didn't see him as a young dork. AND he kissed his sister!?

There is some truth to that. Luke had a sulking problem, to be sure. But in terms of sheer weeniness, Anakin really wins hands down. And Luke had redeeming qualities, whereas Anakin just needs a fucking punch in the face.

Well of course Luke had redeeming qualities, he's supposed to be the redeeming dude ain't he?! And of course Anakin needs a f*cking punch in the face, he turns into the baddest bad-ass in the galaxy doesn't he?!

No, no, no. Look, for us to care about Anakin's redemption, we have to see him as redeemable. It's pretty obvious that falling from good to evil is more dramatic than falling from dweeb to evil villain. The new Star Wars movies actually make episodes 4,5 and 6 worse in retrospect, since in 6 at least we could tell ourselves, like Luke, that there was something worthwhile under all that machinery. Now I know: there was just a dweeb.
