Levy

Posted by Chris

Tomorrow night (Saturday) I'm off to see the band Levy play at Tonic (8:30pm).

Does Levy produce generic 80s-sounding pap or are they something fresh and new in rock? Your insolent question bores me. The fact is, they write nice tunes, and I enjoy listening to them. If you want to be snooty, you can just fuck off back to Williamsburg, as far as I'm concerned.

You might go to Levy's site and give 'em a listen, if you're into pop. They offer 6 full free downloads on their site. The best, in my opinion, is "On the Dance Floor." As far as I can make out, it's about the pain of botching a chance at casual sex through a loss of nerve. Since, of course, I never botched a chance at casual sex through a loss of nerve, it's hard to relate. But it sounds very difficult, and I find the song strangely affecting.

Neither pap nor fresh and new. Like you say, nice pop.

As far as I know, the Wburg kids like Levy.

Ok, ok. I know they're big in Wburg now. Just couldn't resist the chance to complain about Wburg kids being snooty.

no worries. i tend to be snooty.
did you goto the show last night? I was there. the sound of that room wasnt really great, but I thought levy played really well. rest of the room didnt seem to be feeling them, sort of felt like there was some gap in the room between the band and the audience. good times non the less

Yeah, I was there. Was surprised at the size of the crowd - just expected there would be more people, I guess. Band sounded pretty good - though I'm the worst judge of that, since I almost never see pop/rock shows. Liked "Rotten Love" in particular.

What's with the lead singer's punk schtick? Seemed sort of goofy, in light of the band's sound, and the fact that the 80s are over.

That's awesome.

You know, I've got a great emergency room story about a time I was fucking myself with a punk stick and it got stuck and they had to . . .

Anyway, thanks for dropping by.
