Alas, a recent spate of comment spam has required me to begin closing comments on posts even more quickly than before. Comments should stay open for a few days - so if you've got something cheeky to say, don't hesitate! If you've got a comment on an older post that you absolutely must get off your chest, send me an email. I'm happy to print non-idiotic reader correspondence, so long as it's potentially of interest to someone other than myself.

Update: Oh yeah, and to any comment spammer out there: Fuck you and the horse you rode in on.

Pardon my blogosphere ignorance but can you tell me what`s the difference between a spammer and a troll? I see both used on different blogs but haven't quite discerned the difference.

Ah, I believe a troll is someone who has something politically obnoxious (to the host site) to say and says it repeatedly to the annoyance of everyone else reading and trying to have an intelligent conversation. But at least it's actually political. The fucknuts who engage in comment spam are just promoting online casinos, penis enlargement tools, etc. A lot of comment spam is actually automated now, if I understand correctly.

Thanks. I feel enlightened now. I like the term troll as you define it. It is evocative without being too insulting.

It is indeed. Bots.

If you're not running MT-Blacklist, you might want to consider it. I've run for it a few months and it works. It also gets along quite well with MT-CloseComments because I run that, too.

Version 1.65 is compatible with the MT version you're running (which is identical to the version I'm running).
