So, polished off Wodehouse's Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves reasonably quickly (not a monumental task; it was short). Very silly stuff, but entertaining nonetheless.
I think I need some sort of rating system for Wodehouse's novels. Perhaps I should estimate an Audible Laughs to Pages Ratio (ALTPR) for each one? Well then, The Code of the Woosters had the best ALTPR, at about 1:5. The Mating Season was a little weaker, coming in around 1:9. I think Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves belongs somewhere in between at about 1:7. I admit that estimating ALTPRs is not an exact science, but it's the best measure I can think of.
Now that my palate has been cleansed, I'm on to something much darker: Anatol Lieven's book Chechnya: Tombstone of Russian Power.
Posted by Chris at August 15, 2004 11:43 AMO/T, but what ever happened to this post?
Posted by: tex at August 15, 2004 05:08 PMYes, yes. I'm afraid it's been pushed back more times than the complete official release of George W. Bush's service records. At about the 10,000 word mark it hit me that a) Gosh darn it, it's harder to sum it all up than to write snappy little posts; and b) Aw, who the hell is ever going to read the damn thing anyway?
But you're right. It's long overdue. I'll try to get the bloody thing finished by the end of the week.
Posted by: Chris at August 15, 2004 07:39 PMI'm looking forward to reading it.
