Towels, or, A firm rebuke

Posted by Chris

On his site, Norm Geras says many things I disagree with. Most, I let pass. But today he has written something so egregiously false that silence on my part is simply not an option. I refer to his terribly misguided remarks on towel size.

Norm favours small towels over large towels. I don't know whether to feel rage or pity, so I think I will feel a bit of both. This is simply wrong. To luxuriate in a large towel is one of life's pleasures. Sometimes fate will throw us spartan little dishcloths, masquerading as towels. And then we must make do. But to choose anything less than a large towel - that, dear reader, is sheer perversity.

The fact is that if God had wanted us to use small towels he would have given us more patience with people who think that small towels suffice.
