I report, you decide.
Blair’s recent justification for the war – WaPo:
After Sept. 11, it was necessary to “draw a line in the sand here, and the country to do it with was Iraq because they were in breach of U.N. resolutions going back over many years,” Blair said in an interview with the Associated Press. “People say the decision was already taken. The decision was not already taken.”
What the fuck are you talking about? The chinaman is not the issue here, dude. I’m talking about drawing a line in the sand, dude. Across this line, you DO NOT–
…
Look at the current situation with that camel fucker in Iraq. Pacifism is not something to hide behind.
Eerie.

Walter was quoting Bush I? I know the Dude quotes him with “This aggression will not stand.”
The funny thing (well, one of them) about the Big Lebowski is indeed that characters end up repeating each others’ lines or sentiments, even when two characters never meet. For instance, the Big Lebowski says to the Dude, “Yes, ‘fuck-it’. That’s your answer for everything,” and a bit later walter says the same to the Dude: “That’s your answer to everything, Dude.” Then there’s Malibu’s Chief of Police accusing the Dude of “goldbricking,” while Walter–who was not with the dude then–calls the Big L a “goldbricker”. There are, of course, others.

in the very first scene, when the dude is checking out of the grocery store, there’s a t.v. with bush 1 speaking in the background. i believe that bush on tv says “we are drawing a line in the sand”
you’re right about the repetition of lines. the same lines drift from character to character like a verbal virus

Just checked it (not to be pedantic, but to give me an excuse to watch a bit of it…). You hear Bush say: “[Inaudible], call for collective action. This will not stand. This aggression, against Kuait, will not stand.” No talk of lines, nor sand.

Gentlemen, you have given me cause for hope in this godforsaken world. You are truly achievers, and proud we are of all of them.
Nice marmot.
